Ship Inspection SOLAS DM1100 SOLAS Tape - Maritime SOLAS Certified

SOLAS

The name of the multilateral treaty that provides rules for ensuring the safety of ships.

SOLAS, the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea, is generally regarded as the most important international convention on the safety of merchant ships. The first convention was adopted in 1914 after the Titanic disaster, the second in 1929, the third in 1948, and the fourth in 1960. The 1960 Convention, adopted on 17 June 1960 and coming into force on 26 May 1965, was the first major task for IMO after its creation and a major step towards modernising regulations and keeping pace with technological developments in the shipping industry.

DM1100 SOLAS certification tape

DM1100 Solas Tape is a durable product with excellent solvent resistance and excellent long-lasting properties.
For outdoor marine use. Complies with US Department of Transportation specifications.
It is certified according to USCG46CFR, Article 164.018, International Maritime Organization (IMO) Resolution A.658(16) and GL Luxembourg. It can be applied to rigid and non-rigid marine products, especially life rafts, lifebuoys, life jackets, lifeboats, etc.

The tape consists of a layer of plastic material with partially embedded reflective-refractive glass beads. It has a smooth surface, is durable, weatherproof and UV resistant.

(IMO) Resolution A.658(16) defines:

Lifeboats and rescue boats

Retroreflective material shall be mounted above the waterline as well as on the outside of the boat as close to the waterline as possible.

The material shall be of sufficient width and length to give a minimum area of 150cm2 and shall be suitably spaced (approximately 80cm centre to centre). If a canopy is fitted it should not be allowed to obscure any material fitted to the outside of the boat and at the top of the canopy shall be fitted with retroreflective material similar to that described above, suitably spaced (approximately 80cm centre to centre).

Lifebuoy

Retroreflective material shall be fitted around the canopy of the life buoy. The material shall be of sufficient width and length to give a minimum area of 150cm2 and shall be suitably spaced (approximately 80cm centre to centre) at a suitable height above the water pipe, including any access points where necessary. In inflatable liferafts, the retroreflective material shall be fitted to the underside of the floor in the shape of a cross in the centre. The dimensions of the cross shall be half the diameter of the liferaft and a similar cross shall be applied to the top of the canopy. In liferafts without a canopy, material of sufficient width and length (minimum area 150cm2) shall be fitted to the buoyancy chamber at suitable intervals (approximately 80cm centre to centre) to be visible from the air and from ships.

Buoyancy device

Buoyancy devices, as well as open-top liferafts, shall be fitted with retroreflective material, depending on the size and shape of the object, such material making them visible from the air and from ships.

Life jackets

The life jackets shall be fitted with a patch of retroreflective material having a total area of at least 400 cm2 to aid in search from air and seaplanes from all directions.

Diving Suit

Diving suits shall be fitted with patches of retroreflective material with a total area of at least 400 cm2 to aid in the search for air and seaplanes from all directions. In the case of immersion suits which do not automatically turn the wearer's face up, the back of the suit shall be fitted with retroreflective material with a total area of at least 100 cm2.

DM1100A Solastape with adhesive layer

There are two types of DM1100 Solastape: DM1100A with an adhesive layer and DM1100B without an adhesive layer. Apart from the presence or absence of an adhesive layer, types B and A have the same specifications.
